S4 vs HTC One

When I get an HTC One, I'll do an unbiased comparison with shots taken at the same time.

So far, the S4 (canadian version) takes some great outdoor pics but indoor is so-so.
The shutter lag is quite noticeable and very disappointing to me.

I did a comparison with an iphone 5 and the S4 comes out better overall.
Just need an HTC One to compare now.

Wow I thought the bottom pic was the HTC ONE because it looks like some detail was lost. I like the quality in this shot and I am satisfied with the camera overall.

I think the HTC shot shows more detail. I can't say why with any certainty, but I suspect due to lower ISO and Optical Image Stabilization. The s4 shot is probably suffering due to small amount of camera shake/movement without benefit of OIS. These are the advantages of the HTC One. Under certain conditions, these advantages can out weigh the pixel deficit vs. the S4. A better photographer using the s4 could probably get a cleaner shot due to less camera movement.

Don't have any comparison shots at the moment, but a co-worker and I did a similar test with his Note 2 and my One (exact same shot taken seconds apart) on the internals of a PC and we both agreed that the One came out on top, for what it's worth. I also did some brief low light comparisons with my Lumia 920 and my One; as far as I could tell they were nearly identical. Over all very satisfied so far with my One's camera. In fact, I think it is better than the 920's camera (although that is probably more software related than hardware related). I have yet to use a S4 but from what I gather the shutter lag would be a deal breaker for me and while it may get better pictures from time to time I think over all the quality will suffer because of it.

I got myself an HTC One and I'll post up some comparison shots soon.
Here is one of a low light top shelf photo. (please excuse the mess)

The HTC One shutter is so much faster. I would say 0.3 sec, where the S4 is 1 sec.
Both need to be held still to get a sharp photo but the One needs less stability (OIS).

More observations:
S4 has more details in daylight, average light.
S4 focus is faster in lowlight/moving objects
S4 is sharper
One shutter speed is faster on the first shot by 2x than the S4 but subsequent shots are equal.
One has less noise in lowlight
One has trouble focusing on lowlight moving objects and would take the pic 0.5 after S4

The One picture taking feedback is more satisfying and feels faster
The S4 is laggier in both opening the camera app and gallery by 25%.

I'll post up some samples later.

Partly cloudy, outdoor under an awning.
S4 is notably sharper and brighter. I pressed to focus on the middle sand for each phone.

Indoors with low-average light.
S4 is sharper but took longer with the shutter. But the clicks after were quick.
S4

HTC One

Indoors with a window closeby.

S4 is sharper but shutter was about 25% slower to 'click'

HTC One

Indoors with the previous photo window farther away.
Light is average.
S4 is sharper but shutter 25% slower to 'click' S4 colour is more accurate.

Basement with low light
Again S4 shutter slower but sharper photo.

Here are some crappy moving shot tests... lol.
I kicked a ball and took a pic.

This one shows the HTC One being slow to focus and take the shot.
I pressed the shutter button at the same time but the htc one had trouble taking the shot.

Outdoor moving shot. Kicked a ball, took a pic.
Here the HTC one was faster with the shutter. I actually took two while the S4 only got 1 off.
