All these pics are taken with no extra settings on, and all default settings and no flash
Make your own judgements based on these pics, but out of all of them, I personally think:

1st Place: The Galaxy S5 colors are most realistic, though not so good on the 4th photo
2nd Place: Sony Xperia Z2 is not bad, colors are not too bright and not too dark, also realistic
3rd Place: HTC One M8 is good in the first and last shot, but the camera puts too much brightness on the pics, most noticeable on the 2nd pic
4th Place: LG G Pro 2 camera puts some sort of golden hue in all its pics

HTC One M8 = Top Left
Galaxy S5 = Top Right
LG G Pro 2 = Bottom Left
Sony Xperia Z2 = Bottom Right

Welp, I'm not seeing what all the fuss is about with the M8 camera, looks to me like it'll be just fine as an everyday shooter, which is how I use phone cameras

I think it's very clear to see the m8's camera lets in way more light than any of the others. Exactly what the ultrapixel technology is designed for. Whether or not someone likes it is purely subjective. I for one think the m8 did better than all the others and if nobody else agrees, than you can at least agree it's on par with the rest if the bunch. Pretty damn good for a measly 4mp to be on par with the z2's 20mp and s5's 16mp

Definitely agree on the notion that of not understanding what all of the fuss is about in regards to the M8 camera. Its not horrible, but it isn't great (is that why people are complaining?) Not sure.

The S5 camera is pretty good though except for the last photo.

I think the M8 shines with its ultrapixels, when the lighting is low. The only thing I notice, is that the M8 did poorly in that building shot, in my opinion. The colors look washed out and the highlights are overblown.
