how to set screen so it can be seen in bright day light

When I am outdoors in bright day light, I can't see the screen to do anything. How can the screen be set to automatically adjust so it can be seen?

Welcome to Android Central.

There is a limit to the screen brightness you can achieve on a phone, with the quality of outdoor visibility varying from one device to another.
But to set the phone to adjust the brightness automatically in response to the surrounding light, go to Settings, Display, Brightness. You can set it to Automatic or Adaptive or whatever it may be called on your device.
It's also useful to be able to switch this Auto setting on and off....that may be possible by pulling down shortcuts from the top of the display, depending on device and version of the Operating System.
