the display turn off is triggered by a proximity sensor, usually near the upper right corner (front view) of phones, this is done to avoid pressing buttons while the phone is near your face. If you are keeping a distance with your phone and it activates, it may seem due to a sensor malfunction.

Has your phone recently suffered any damage or have you downloaded any unusual app?
