Hey everyone,

So I plugged my Bionic into the computer today and my 32GB SD card showed up but so did another disk called MOT. I'm guessing this is the internal memory of the phone for storing pictures and data, etc. How do I make my SD card the default for everything other than apps? Has anyone run into a problem like this?

I've run into this as well. I noticed it with the Amazon MP3 app and Google Music. Anytime I try to cache music for offline listening it goes to the internal storage. I need it to go to the external - that's why I bought a 32gb card.

I talked to someone at Verizon in store and on their tech support line and they both were completely dumbfounded.

This along with the 'hiss/whine' that you hear when you have your headphones in might push me to take it back.

There is a bug... sorry, an "issue" involving storage on the SD card. Things that used to store data on the SD tend to store it in internal instead. Bad things happen if you try to move apps to SD or Media (the internal storage), so for now, just leave them where they are. For photos you can set the camera to store on SD and it works fine. Music can be placed there as well, but anything you download seems to go to internal. I am hoping this is something that will be fixed fairly soon.

Not a bug I don't think. It is so files downloaded can be encrypted for business security while keeping media free for afterwork fun.

What is the easiest way to merge the dcim in internal memory to the external sd? I tried astro and it made the phone freeze up. Not gonna try that again. Any suggestions?

Use the built in file manager on the Bionic to move files back and forth. It clearly shows what's internal and what's SD.

Thanks, but, I don't have a problem differentiating my internal and external storage areas when i plug into the computer.

It seems to be the apps (how the phone interacts with them) that cannot tell what's internal or SD. Or maybe they think the internal sdext is the external card. Either way, it's a minor annoyance that i have to put things on my internal so the phone can recognize them as something that's on the SD card.

For example: easy app installer will search the SD card for APKs you may want to install. So i toss a few APKs on the EXTERNAL SD CARD and run the app. The app searches the SD card, and returns no results. So I move the APKs to the internal storage, and run the search (on the SD) again, and bingo, the apps are found.

Holy crap! I didn't even realize that it had that file manager lol. Cool now I can transfer all 500 songs to my SD card cause it took a toll on my internal storage....

I thought I read where the apps had to be store on the internal memory and the SD Card was used for media storage?

I understand what you're saying. With my Droid X and a 32GB SD card I could cache a ton of music from Google Music or Amazon for trips when I'm out of range of a data connection. With the Bionic, Google Music would always look to the internal storage space and not my 32GB card.

A lot of my apps would also look to the internal card for backups, etc. This was annoying as well since I like all of the backups to rest on the SD card in case the phone goes on the fritz / needs to be reformatted unexpectedly.

This along with the audio whine led me to return the phone. Not acceptable for $300 and a new 2 yr contract.

If your rooted you can flip flop Droid X2 SD Storage Flip-Flop - xda-developers. And yes apps have dedicated app storage. And its up to app devoloer to modify there app for different storage options.
