How To Root Moto X, Droid Ultra, Mini, And Maxx
Confirmed working. It's still a little wonky (no access to rw in /system/app) but it definitely works. I've rooted and unrooted my phone now and can confirm that ISIS doesn't work when root is on, but does when root is again removed.
Thanks Alee.
does google wallet work?
I didn't know that ISIS was available. I'll have to unroot and try it out.
Sent from my Droid Maxx by Motorola using Tapatalk 4.
You must have ignored my other posts. ;) Only works for Amex and Chase Freedom cards... but works great otherwise.
You still can't write to /system/app with this first cut of root access which is required to make this work.
Patience folks. Jcase got his test phone less than 8 hours ago and did this root without access to a device from what I can tell. That's pretty impressive. This is just the beginning.
Wonder if we could combine these threads:

This phone just became perfect!
Wow, sounds way to easy. I'm going to sit back and listen to others experiences before I get involved.

Well, the good news is this is very easy and seems to work fine.
The bad news is that I don't seem to be able to do what I want; my goal was to be able to replace WirelessChargingStarted.ogg (from /system/media/audio/notifications/ (and droidpu.ogg from /system/media/) with silence. I can do that, but they seem to come back when I reboot. I will admit it could be operator error; this is my first time rooting an Android phone.
I am also interested to know if Google Wallet will work with root.
Did you read the response above? It will not work until we also gain the ability to rw in /system/app
would an ad blocker require rw ability, or would the downloaded hosts not be associated with that?
for those who want to tether - Enable stock tethering - Root Required - xda-developers
edit: some have reported not being able to see the settings required.
NOTE: currently even with the root access you cannot disable some of the apps you want to. the next update should fix that.
Ah, those few weeks of people worrying about whether we'd get root access seem kind of silly now, don't they? :)
That's because system files are not writeable outside bootloader or recovery, even if you mount system as R/W. I found the root still useful - I deleted the wireless charging notification and now my phone is silent when I place it on the charging pad. Yes, the notification will return after the next reboot, but I dont reboot my phone that often and will have to delete the notification sound again after reboot.
When you root do you get KitKat or Jelly Bean?
Root changes nothing about your phone, just what you can access from within your phone. So you're still Jelly Bean.
That makes sense, but does this mean I will NEVER be able to do what I want? (I do reboot somewhat often, as I fly fairly frequently, and I'm the sucker who actually shuts his phone when one is supposed to shut it.) I suppose I could create a Llama profile to erase that sound (or actually, replace it with silence, otherwise, there's some other annoying notification sound) every time I boot, but that seems slightly silly.
I've heard that they are working on some sort of a solution - bootsafe or bootstrap - something that will allow read-write access to the system.
Ok ... So if you are rooted when Verizon sends out KitKat OTA, can you get that update?
At the risk of getting my head bit off again by cliberti, would this root enable SVTP to work (hotspot app)? I have no idea what is meant by the ability to rw in /system/app.
This works perfectly fine. I did it last night and tethered to confirm. Makes the native tethering app work beautifully.
