I know there have been other threads saying that some other month is when the next Moto is coming out, but here's some interesting stuff from another Droid website...

According to a rumor out of a site called Hot Hardware, a “very reliable source” has indicated to them that Motorola is going to release both a DROID RAZR HD and a RAZR MAXX HD, but not until October.
(Droid-Life.com)

Also for a VZW sales rep in the comments of the the above post...
VZW retail emp here. Both current RAZRs are set to be phased out by mid-October. In addition to the RAZR HD/RAZR Maxx, there will be the same type of color differentiation as the current set. If you think the phone is too big (silly, right?), there is also the RAZR Micro, or motxt907, device on the slate for a similar release time.

So possibly October or earlier release date for a Razr HD and a Razr Micro? Sounds nice. Another reason this makes sense... I fly a LOT and I've been seeing a huge amp up in advertisements for the current Razr MAXX... it's almost a year old and they typically try to ramp up sales one last time before it's phased out. Also Amazon.com is selling the Razr for $0.01 ... lot of indications that the HD/HD MAXX or whatever is just around the corner

My DX is up this month, but I think I'll hold onto it until Moto finally releases whatever it's going to release

They are also saying still running ICS. If that's the case, it will be a major fail. No logic in releasing a year old OS when the JellyBean has been out there for 4 months at that point.

i see this being a failure unless it has jb or s4pro or both. honestly s3 should get jb by about this time and is a better phone.

That's debatable. I and many others think Samsung is crap. I'd take a Motorola cellular radio over the weak one in all SS devices.

Hmm. I was hoping that this was a stop gap device until they released something big in January. If this is being released then what are the chances of Moto pulling another Bionic / Razr type of back to back release?

I am one that thinks Samsung software/hardware is COMPLETE UTTER GARBAGE!

I have owned 2 Samsung devices. One dumb phone and one smart phone. I don't think I will be buying another one. I don't mind the their software but the hardware they use just is lacking any kind integrity and i don't know the word...toughness? durability? both? Anyway its one of the reasons I have been looking forward to this new Moto. Release the beast!

The radio might not be identical to the S3 just because it has an S4 chip.

Motorola has done alot of work on antenna design and software. Read these posts and others by this guy:

The 3rd link basically sums it up real good with a diagram. He is a very knowledgeable guy, and knows his stuff.

My take? It may have similar data performance...maybe. I feel Motorola has more reliable data and phone reception than most other phones for the most part and all things being equal. The Bionic is an anomaly...lol. I have a feeling the Fighter, RAZR HD will still do better in fringe, weak reception areas. For me, thats important since I live and work in such an area.

The radio is identical. It is part of the SoC. The ANTENNAE are probably different.

Take a look at the links....it explains it all nice and somewhat easily. The radio might not be identical.

The LTE modem will be the same....after that....its anyone's guess.

This is a nice post someone put together too:

What I am thinking is the LTE modem setup on the S4 chip helps with battery life, heat. Maybe faster LTE speeds. But for reception strength, it will either be Qualcomm or something in house from Motorola. Motorola does use Qualcomm for some radio, antenna stuff too but they also add their lil touch here n there, either hardware and/or software.

Dude. The radios are the same. Its a condition of using the S4 right now, because everything is integrated with the SoC. The S4 that is just the AP (and can be used with different radios) won't be out until the fall.

Okay, guess I was mistaken then.....

But....ppl shouldn't assume it will perform or behave the same just because it has an S4.

The ATRIX HD reviews noted a ding on battery life, even though battery sizes are similar to other phones.

If Motorola wants to compete, they'd have this phone out before September 12th.
