Voice dialer sucks on 4.1.2

I can no longer use a voice dialer with my maxx HD. The voice command app that came with the phone was reliable, not perfect, be we understand each other. The new voice dialer in 4.1.2 is worse than useless. I have tried almost every name in my address book, and it did not recognize a single one. Just to be sure, my wife tried, and it could not understand her either, calling what looked like random contacts.
The voice recognition DOES work when dictating a text, so it's not the recognition. It even understands the names in my address book that were previously mis-dialed.
What the heck is going on?

Did you every get an answer to this question? I'm dying out here. My voice dialer does not work at all now.

try using Google Now instead. you can put an icon on the home screen for "voice search" and just say "call mary" (or whomever). I found it more reliable than using the voice dialer.
