Like seemingly most of us, the KitKat update did horrible things to my battery life. I have tweeked all sorts of settings since then to eek out as much battery as I can. I've also uninstalled as many apps as is practical. If I really only use the phone to keep up with email & maybe look up something on the web, I can make it through a day. Any "normal" use and I have to recharge as some point.
Yesterday, I had about 45 minutes of screen time. The biggest use of battery was the Android OS. Does anyone have a clue what it is doing and if there is any way to get it to use less? Attached are screenshots from the Battery settings and from BetterBatteryStats. Yes, I know I keep WiFi on & the mobile signal isn't that great at work, but those were both true before KitKat when I could easily make it through a day with far more use of the phone! I hate what they have done to my poor M - it was an awesome phone
