I accidentally removed the clock, temp, and battery life from my home screen, how do I get them back?

Just tap and hold on an empty space in your homescreen, select ADD WIDGET or similar option that appears and select the appropriate widget you want.

I've done that too on my Galaxy Note 3 finally figured out I needed to hold the options key (to the left of the home key) and select widgets. Then click on the one that was there. My problem is the widget is sized 4:1 so it takes up almost half the home screen. How can I resize it smaller?

Not all launchers support widget re-sizing, and even when they do, some widgets don't really re-size well (they might look chopped up or incomplete or over-stretched).

Nova is a popular 3rd party launcher that does support widget re-sizing and even overlapping.
