Battery life thread

I'm experiencing horrible battery life too. Full charged over night, woke up, unplugged phone. Used it for about 10 minutes checking email, installed an app, read the news...put it down.

So, used it for 10 minutes, set it down. An hour later I check the phone, it's already down to 85% battery...that seems excessive drain.

I'm coming from an iPhone and I gotta say, as much as I hated the iPhone the battery was never an issue. (never going back to iphone....bad experiment haha)

Everyone keeps saying "turn off the 4g" to improve battery life....What's the point of having it if we have to turn it off to get good battery life? (btw, i have 4g in my area) I really love this phone but if I have to turn off a bunch of it's features (ie: lower screen brightness, turn off 4g, etc) then it's like the features don't exist...

frustrated.......:'(

lol You're experiencing it "too"? Did you just miss the 3-5 some odd posts of EXCELLENT battery life?

um, ok, Thanks? I actually copied my post from a different android website to get some additional opinions from this forum.

Thanks for calling that out for me.

Why not read the actual thread you're posting to instead of posting something from ANOTHER thread that doesn't pertain to the flow of positive comments? If you took an extra 2 seconds to edit your post it would've made a lot more sense.

I live in a LTE area, both work and home. Home area has LTE but weaker so much time it is switching between LTE and 3G

I plugged the phone at 10pm at 100%

Then I did a complete factory reset
Re-set up every account.

I set up the so-called my accounts with Picasa, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Hotmail using that bloatware provided by Moto or Verizon.

Then set up and sync Gmail (and I realized that there is no way to completely remove email accounts from the "Email" app)

I did some surfing, and updated about 10 apps from Market.

tried 5 mins camera. No calls, no texts.

but play around the phone a lot to explore its functionalities.

at 1AM when i am going to bed, it is 20%

when I woke up at 8am today, it was completely dead. so I have no idea which time from 1am to 8am it is dead.

but when I got to bed at 1am, the phone was on LTE . maybe that was the reason. I did, however, used one smart action to stop sync data while phone battery is below 20%

anyways, that was my 2nd charge.
I will test the 3rd charge today see if it improves. If it is like this after a week, I am going to return it.

i got my RAZR yesterday morning, played for a while then fully charged before unplugging for work at 5pm.. i'm not allowed to use my phone while working (casino industry), but i got a 30min. break every 1h30min. and used it for about 20min. every break until 2am when i got out. around 3am i got the low battery signal (i think 20%).. 4G was turned on all night, browsing/email/few calls/few texts.. i think i'll start turning off 4G unless i need it, if i wasn't at work i would have been using my phone a lot more and it would've died much ealier.. just a little real life usage story..

I don't own the phone which is why is was asking about Smart Actions enabling you to under-clock the processor. The reason I was assuming this was possible was, at the Razr announcement Sanjay makes a comment about Smart Actions allowing you to lower the processor speed so that you're able to "make that important phone call that you wanted to make." He starts to talk about Smart Actions at 22:30 and makes the comment about the processor at about 23:00.

was this directly after unplugging your device? normally when you're phone hits 100% charge it stops charging even if it is still plugged in, once it drops far enough the charge will pick up again.. you may have unplugged when it was at it's full charge low peak, if that makes sense..

I plugged in in last night. Woke up late, around 8:30am this morning. Unplugged it. No 4g, all 3g. It's been in the red for half an hour now. So, 7 hours. Not good My Dinc lasted all day.

I think we need to have realistic expectations given 4g. I also think we need to request manufacturers to display realistic battery consumption data. I started out iPhone and when I was searching for a new phone I expected high drain due to current 4g technology. The reason I got 4g was to be able to talk and access data at the same time. So, if the trade off is less battery life, I am willing to deal with it while commenting to manufacturers to keep finding a way to improve the 4g issues. I'm happy they reduced the bulk in this phone and I know further improvements will come.

I am fully in 4g coverage at work and at home. Home is right on the edge of Verizon's coverage, but I didn't notice any 4g/3g searching once actually inside my house. Phone came out of the box at 40-whatever percent. Did all of my setup, sync, app downloads, etc, and played around with the camera, browser, and some apps for an hour or so. Configured my screens, moved some widgets around, setup ringtones and alarms, and finally went to bed. Probably two and a half to three hours of hard usage, with the screen constantly on. When I plugged it in, I was somewhere between 10 and 20 percent.

This morning, it came off the charger at 5am. Brought it to work and started showing it off. Lots of video, streaming music, browser activity, photos, and my normal (average) amount of email, text, call usage. Again... about 4 hours of heavy CONSTANT usage, on top of three hours of very low usage. I finally plugged it back in just before 1pm, right after the 15% battery warning. Still waiting for an average usage day to truly judge the battery life. But, I am absolutely impressed by it's life under extreme usage. It blows my Incredible out of the water.

Did some netflix streaming over 4g today for about an hour and the battery charge dropped around 20% (a guess since I didn't actually do before and after measurements).

I noticed that when I'm at home I'm on the fringe of 4G/3G coverage. If I have data on and it keeps switching back and forth the battery drains pretty quick. Kind of annoying. I'm assuming this would happen with any 4G phone on this network and isn't something exclusive to the RAZR in this situation.

I'm also getting pitiful battery life. Use it for some mild web browsing and texting then and hour or so of game and it's dead (from a full charge). I'm using Advanced Task Killer and notice that there's ALWAYS tons of apps running. As soon as I kill all of them they start popping back up instantly. Please tell me I have something set up wrong. Battery life is the only thing I don't love about it and really don't want to return it.

Well I've been on WIFI all day long, and I've basically have been downloading apps, browsing web, checking e-mails. Since taking it off the charger at 8am this morning until now 8pm, I'm still at 60% power. However I've not done any video or played any games either. 4G doesn't come to my area (work) until late next week, so I'll be testing more then and seeing what happens when I leave work for home and the transition to 3G.

It's tough to compare what everyone's results are since even though we have the same phone, we don't have the same apps, widgets running either.

DO NOT USE A TASK KILLER, that's what's killing your battery. All those apps constantly restarting kills it. Search the forums about task killers for more info.
