Samsung Epic 4g dock (well the whole s series)

I am close to buying a samsung epic 4g i had the evo but sold it due to the poor battery life that it had but i love the epic... I am wondering about the official samsung dock that has the 3.5mm jack out on the back i know that it dont work wiht android 2.1 cuz my (ex)gf has the verizon version on the s line and it never worked even though she had it rooted and a 2.2 rom and all on it, if i put a rom on my epic when i get it would it work, i realy dont need it but i might use my $400 surround sound that i bought and rarely use again if i can, also if im lisitin to music wiht headphones and come just unplug them and hook it up to the dock and turn suround sound on will it automaticly(spelling) see it? Currently it doesn't work. The fascinate does with the unofficial leak. The surround is just a button, you can push it and it will activate wether or not you have it plied into a5.1 channel surround sound unit.

I believe the Samsung Desk Home app from the market will enable that port.
