What is rooting and why would I want to do it?

I notice alot of threads on hacking to increase data speeds. Which one should I use? And why or should I do it?

I am totally green when it comes to smat phone this being my 1st one i've owned.

    Thanks in advance

Rooting provides user access to the protected system portion of your phone, usually locked down by manufacturers in order to control the environment and to avoid users getting in and screwing up their phone resulting in increased service and returns. Root is the base system directory in the software.

I'd say the reason your average person roots is to get free wifi, but there are other benefits that more advanced users like to take advantage of. However, rooting will not directly increase your data speeds.

Read around. There is tons of information out on the internet on smartphone rooting and its benefits ... AND DANGERS!

Here is a good pep talk from the writers of AC. http://www.androidcentral.com/someti...%80%99t-answer

It should make it pretty clear what the risks and benefits are. If you have any other questions just ask.

That's a great read. Summarizes my thoughts about the whole thing perfectly.
