Okay. Since I have CyanogenMod's, and the EpicTouchAOSP device tree on my BuildBook, I decided to compile AOSP ICS. But after an hour, I got this error:

    I followed the guide here:

It's nothing wrong with my computer configuration, because I successfully built CWM for another device.

Are you sure? You need a pretty grand computer to compile a full rom from source. Compiling a recovery from source and a full rom are two totally different animals. Here is my setup.

    Dual Boot Windows 7 w/ Ubuntu 11.10
    Ubuntu Development Tool Kit
    Java SDK
    Java 6
    Rom kitchen
    Winzip
    Linux Virtual Machine

    Computer Set up
    Gateway Laptop
    24GigaBytes RAM --- Helps alot
1.5 Trillabytes of Hard drive --- Helps Alot
Voodoo Video Chip < came with the laptop
    Massive Intel Processor [6 + 1 Cores]

    I didn't know I needed that much.
    My computer setup is:

    Dell Latitude D630
    4Gigabytes of RAM
    250 Gigabytes Hard Drive
    Intel Mobile GM965 Express Chipset
Intel Core2Duo 2Core. Clocked at 2GHz per core.

Looks like I'm going to have to find a hosted buildbox online.

Ya Thats really little compared to most computers compiling roms. You should be able to compile kernels without issue though.

Okay, guess I'm stuck with kernels atm, or at least until I dish out the money to get some more systems.

Really you should be able to compile without issue even on this setup. With my current setup I can compile ICS or JB in under 30 minutes....

Dell Inpirion Dual Core i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50Ghz
    8 GB RAM
    1 TB HD
Running Ubuntu 12.04/Windows 7 Dual Boot Setup.

The biggest key points to building and compiling is RAM and the allotted hard drive space you give to your build environment. With Ubuntu/Linux setup you should give yourself a 100 gb for a solid building setup. RAM, sure the more the better but that is only going to make the build quicker. I have a friend with almost identical setup to yours an he compiles ICS/JB in 60 mins.

As for your error you had during the build.. Could very well be you didn't have enough hard drive space partitioned out for Ubuntu to play with or if all else fails dump your repo and redo your repo again....

    What build times you getting?

That RAM and processor you should be doing under what I am... I'd say somewhere in the 15 min or less range...

I forgot to mention I have my hard drive split down the middle... 50/50... 500 GB to Ubuntu and 500 GB to Windows 7 partition...

I'm running Ubuntu by itself. No Windows, or anything else. After all my repos , I have 166.9 GB remaining. I even repo sync-ed and it did some changes, but same error.

EDIT: I'll dump the repo , and re-sync..

Ya I know dumping the repo and re-sync blows but sometimes its the best way to resolve things....

Only other thing I can think of is your Java... I know that is the most pain in the *** part of setting up the build environment... I got mine finally "accepted" for the build environment after countless attempts.

I just deleted the files in my working directory and it is already syncing my work tree. Is it a backup folder to delete?

You delete out your working directory and that should cover it...

Don't forget on setup again to redo your binaries/proprietary files (Vendor folder) is what will be created in your working directory...

    EDIT: Nvm, I got it.

Okay, is it just me, or is sbrissen's kernel source throwing straight errors? First I had to manually locate missing files, and place them in the appropriate folder, and still no go. I gave up on the ROM, but no go on kernel?

    No kernel building experience... Sorry

It's okay, I'm 100% sure I did everything right. I know that. It's just his kernel source. I don't know why , but it's missing a lot of files required for the build. I'm gone try studying someone else's and see what I'm missing..

Good idea.. Compare up to some others , Meld or Diff them to compare up and see if something clearly stands out that your missing for commonly shared/used files...

Are you sure? You need a pretty grand computer to compile a full rom from source. Compiling a recovery from source and a full rom are two totally different animals. Here is my setup.

    Dual Boot Windows 7 w/ Ubuntu 11.10
    Ubuntu Development Tool Kit
    Java SDK
    Java 6
    Rom kitchen
    Winzip
    Linux Virtual Machine

    Computer Set up
    Gateway Laptop
    24GigaBytes RAM --- Helps alot
1.5 Trillabytes of Hard drive --- Helps Alot
Voodoo Video Chip < came with the laptop
    Massive Intel Processor [6 + 1 Cores]
I'm sorry...but what the hell is a "trillabyte"? O.o And 24 GB RAM on a laptop? Can I ask what one you got because that's a beast. I've built CM7 from source on my Macbook Pro with 4GB RAM and a 250GB hard drive, 2.3GHz Core 2 Duo.

My spelling sucks.....let me lay down what it is.....1024mb=1gb.....1024gb=1tb......I have 1.5tb of hardware space. The laptop had 12gb by default of RAM I added 12gb more of RAM at time of purchase so that is 24gb total RAM. The computer was purchased at laptop exchange.

Okay, is it just me, or is sbrissen's kernel source throwing straight errors? First I had to manually locate missing files, and place them in the appropriate folder, and still no go. I gave up on the ROM, but no go on kernel?

    [removed compile output]
sbrissen's kernel can only be built with CM's inline kernel build system right now.

he would have to make edits to the source to make it buildable standalone.

if you want to build just the kernel

just do this in your top level working directory for android.
assuming you have the kernel source in the right place.

    Code:
    . build/envsetup.sh && lunch full_d710-userdebug && make bootimage;
also assuming you're using his device tree.

Gave up , his tree did absolutely nothing for me. I'm starting from the drawing board.

You make it sound like you need a $2.500+ dollar computer just to build from source...

I've built CM9 from chris41g's source tree on my Dell Optiplex 760 with only a 3.16Ghz dual core and 8GB of RAM Windows 7 Ultimate running a virtual machine that was only utilizing 4GB of that RAM.
