Facebook app Samsung s4

Recently switched from a Samsung mega to and s4. I got the fb app all installed, installed all my other apps and started signing in. When I got 1st notification I opened the app and tried to respond. All I got instead was a black screen and Facebook crashed. Upon looking this up there were a lot of answers to fix this, which to this point, I have checked to make sure the phone was up to date, I reinstalled the fb app 3 times hoping it would fix, and I also tried it from a browser on my phone. Had no problems on the browser which leads me to believe it's the app. Any hints or suggestions would be great!
