Verizon Fascinate car dock and Charger question

I just purchased a car dock for my Verizon Fascinate. I also purchased via Verizon a charger. I own a 2010 Maxima which doesn't have a place to charge on the dashboard but has one in the center console. However, if I try to attach the charger and hook it to my phone in the car dock it is stretched to the max. How do I fix this problem. I would like to use the navigation on my car dock but yet keep it charged at the same time.

Purchase a USB universal charger and then buy a long USB to reach the phone.
