Banned because I haven't read all the posts but as long as he's nice to her, can carry on a conversation and doesn't embarrass her in front of her friends, girls aren't really looking for more than that.
Girls do like knowing you are thinking about them, but not to the point of it being creepy. Pay attention to things she says she likes or doesn't like and things about her friends so after you meet them you can say something like, is that the one with the cute dog or whatever, and she'll be impressed that you remembered or even listened. Or you can tell her how you saw a poster on a bus advertising her favorite bands new album and it reminded you of her. That makes a great text. "On the bus. Passed a Goo Goo Dolls in concert billboard. Thought of you." Just don't overdo it. There is a line that can be easily crossed.
But, most of all, be you. A friend of mine recently dated a guy who we thought was perfect, but it turned out, he just did everything because it was what *she* liked. When they broke up, I couldn't even form an opinion because I really knew nothing about him.
Hope that was somewhat helpful. It's been a long time since I was 14 and I don't have kids. However, my 15-year old niece will be visiting next week so she might have some better advice!
