Android Media center advice?

Hey guys, i just bought an android 4.2 based "Kaisser baas smart media center" and to say the least, its highly un impressive

It came with XBMC and that runs so slow its unbelievable, and the launcher they have built in is ugly as anything.

So im just curious if anyone knows any good simple apps or launchers for android so i can make it more user friendly for my parents

They basically just want to be able to play movies from a flash drive or over our home network

Not sure if it's compatible, but Nova Launcher is a popular and reliable 3rd party launcher that does seem to improve overall interface performance. It tends to imitate the stock Android launcher appearance, so there are no radical departures in appearance.

If you need a super-simple launcher that's senior-friendly, you could try BIG Launcher, but it does cost a bit.
