My phones specs

Dual Sim Full Active, supports W+G / G+G / both micro SIM

HTC One 802w*2G: GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz ; 3G: WCDMA/HSPA:**850/1900/2100*MHz

According to Google I should be
able to get 3g to work on this phone.

T-Mobile specs
US GSM (T-Mobile)

GSM/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSPA+: 850/900/1700/1900/2100 MH

So is there something I'm not doing correctly or am I just misunderstanding the numbers.

Thanks. My phone is HTC One 802w from China Unicom

I would contact customer service. TMO used to have a coverage map up that broke down networks by types (UMTS 1700, UMTS 1900, etc.) but that has been replaced now.

FWIW, Roam Mobility (a TMO MVNO) reports "Chicago" as a UMTS 1900 market.

Chicago should be running 1900MHz HSPA. They pulled HSPA off AWS just last month to expand LTE so PCS should be their only 3G network.

One thing to keep in mind is that the dual-sim phones typically have one slot for 2G+3G and another slot for 2G only. Try switching the SIM to the other slot.

I would check the APN settings and making sure it's trying to connect to fast.t-mobile. Yes that's the LTE but if it can't connect to it, it will try to connect to the fastest speed it can connect to.
