Back in March my wife and I switched our plan to the More Everything Edge Plan and added two additional lines for my teen daughters. They all decided to get Droid Turbos and I decided to upgrade my 5s to the 6 plus. However, I am now feeling increasingly ham stringed by the closed nature of IOS. My question to you folks (and hopefully some of you work for Verizon) is this: Is there a way to get rid of my 6 plus and get one of the current Android phones without paying the phone off completely? I know there is a better than even chance that my only recourse is to pay the phone off. If this is the case, then I most likely will tough it out until I can upgrade early due to the fact that I can not afford to pay this phone off currently. Thank you in advance for your help/suggestions.

You would need to pay it off.

You could always sell it or trade it for the phone you want

Sell the iPhone 6 plus on Swappa. Assuming it is in mint condition, it would be enough to buy a used g4.

It is in mint condition. I had it outside a case for maybe about two weeks at the most. It currently has a tempered privacy glass screen protector and resides in a Platinum series slim case with kickstand and accompanying holster.

If I end up selling, is there anything special I need to do to keep my number and line active?

Nope. But I would wipe it and remove the SIM before selling

Do I need to pay it off first? I noticed on Swappa that they say no phones that are on installment plans and I'm pretty sure that's what the edge plan on Verizon is all about.

Well that's a no go then. I can't afford to pay it off so it looks like I will be riding the installment out for a while till I can afford to pay it off. Thank you for your help.

Just get rid of the line and phone by using celltradeusa.com or trademycellular.com. The person taking over the line for free will be paying the installment plan. Just give it away for free. then get a new line, new number and new phone.

If I go this route, do I just inform Verizon that X person will be taking over this line? Sorry for a possibly real simple question. This is a whole new world I am potentially stepping into here and this is all new to me.

You can assumption of liability team and set up a transfer. They will ask for the persons name. Then that person can call and take over the line.

Hope you trust the person taking over the line. I trusted a friend yrs ago and put her on my account. Never again. I had to take her to small claims. I could afford the line myself but matter of principal helping out someone. I did get the money and the phone but a friendship ended

Swappa won't know. Just make sure you pay it off with the money you get.

If you put someone in your account then you are responsible for their charges.

If you transfer liability of the line then, once the process is complete, then the line and phone associated with the line is the responsibility of the new owner. You hold no more liability once you transfer liability of the line to someone else
