OK, I get what a jet pack is.
    I get it, but why?
I mean hot spot, wifi etc etc

    Why a jet pack?
A friend has one, costs 500, she uses it and says "I have a jet pack "
    I say 'I have a hot spot, and didn't spend anything ."

Mine works just as good if not better than hers.
    What's up with them?
    Don't get it .

Welcome to the forums. Is this an additional device? Like a signal booster or something?

Well... those jetpacks have the advantage of being a dedicated piece of hardware. Plug it in and you create a wifi network... yes, your phone has hotspot capability, but it has its disadvantages. First, it uses a fair amount of power.. your phone is not designed to act like a router, so it isn't necessarily the most efficient. Second, you have to toggle it on and off, the jetpack is ready to go once you turn it on. And lastly, if your hotspot is on, your phone's WiFi adapter is dedicated to acting as a router so you are then switched over to mobile AND you are sharing your mobile connection between the phone and whatever device you are connecting with.

If you are someone who uses that hotspot a lot.. heavily and every day... one of those jetpacks will make life a little bit easier I would think.

I use both. I personally like the jet pack.

1-battery life is a big impact when your using hotspot. My jet pack will last close to 8 hours on a charge. My phone will last maybe 3 hours
2-signal, the jet pack always has a stronger signal then what my phone has
3-stability. I can use both my phones, iPad, and laptop without any issues whereas on the hotspot runs great most of the time but has given me issues.
4-heat, my phone heats up where the jet pack stays cool.
