False Voicemail Notification

Until recently I had a Samsung S6 and every day when I opened up the device a "New voicemail" notification was displayed on the opening screen.

I have recently purchased a S7 edge and exactly the same notification appears on the opening screen.

Not a big problem, just slightly annoying!

In there any way I can remove this false notification?

Many thanks.

Which carrier are you on? Open your Phone app, tap Menu>Settings>Call Settings>Voicemail, and look in the Voicemail Setup menu. Is the voicemail number there correct for your carrier?

Hi B. Diddy. Many thanks for your reply. My Voicemail number is marked "not set". Didn't realise I had to set it! Me and technology!

I have a UK PAYG SIM card from EE.

We are currently in Western Australia where we arrived in March to visit our daughter and family. Due to COVID-19 we are still here. Don't feel safe making the long journey back to England. Feel more comfortable here in one of the safest regions of the world.

Usually connect here with Telstra but only use phone for WhatsApp and very occasional text messages.

Anyway, can you please advise how I find correct number for carrier

Regards.

Edit your Voicemail Number and enter this: 07953 222 222

(See this article: ee.co.uk/help/help-new/getting-started-and-upgrading/using-your-phone-features/how-do-i-use-voicemail)

Not sure if that will help with the notification, but let's start with that.

(Since you're abroad, you might have to enter this voicemail number instead: +44 7953 222 222)

Hi. Thanks again for further response.

I have added the number as suggested. The notification still appears but now without the added words, "Voicemail number unknown".

Which number did you enter? Since you're abroad, you might have to enter the one with the country code in front.

You could also try calling EE support and asking if there's some flag on the carrier side that is incorrectly making your phone register an unread voicemail.

Hi again. I have tried the number with and without the UK country code but the notification still appears - even after a Restart.

Try long press the phone app , then tap app info scroll to storage clear data/cache and also force stop the app , try all 3

I'm thinking this has to do with you being abroad and roaming. I assume you've already made sure all of your voicemail has been heard in the system, right? I'd still try contacting EE's support line (if it's not too expensive to call from Australia) and ask them if there's a flag they can reset on their side.

I've just disabled Lock Screen notifications on the phone app. Done the trick! Being in Oz, only use the phone for internet; don't use it for calls of course.

We contact family & friends through WhatsApp, Skype, etc. and just send the very occasional text message.
