For those who have experience, how long does a phone generally have to be out before it is eligible to be traded in for a newer model?

For instance, the s21 fe which came out in January of 2022.

They only usually take trade-ins beginning from the last major generation (twice a year for flagships, once a year for mid-rangers). For instance, for the Flip/Fold 4, you're likely to see trade ins for S22s (around 6mo 'old'), but for mid-rangers, you're likely not to see them in the list until the next yearly iteration.
