Ok, I merged another of your threads into this one and made you the owner of the original guest post. You still need to tell us what you mean by an "on Deb" tablet. Or is that a bad voice transcription of "Android"?

If you tap the App Drawer button (the circle in the bottom row with the grid of dots in it), do you see any apps there?

FYI, the Nexus 7 tablet is extremely old and out of date, so you won't be able to run a whole lot of modern apps on it anyway.

Welcome to Android Central! What is an "on Deb tablet"? Are you talking about a Nexus 7 tablet?

I am new to this so bare with me. It is a nexus Asus tablet 7 but in the about tablet setting it says " on Deb" I'm not sure what it means ?no circle at bottom of screen nothing when it starts up it just goes to the connect to network wifi screen and from there it just goes to all white screen? Only thing I can get it to do is if I pull screen down from top I can access the settings but nothing other than that . I have hard reset it and factory reset it still nothing?

And I did upload some attachments to show you but I'm not sure where they are ?

Here are some pictures of my " on Deb " nexus 7 tablet

Here is what it's doing

The Nexus 7 is a decade old at this point. The fact that it powers on at all is a minor miracle.

It's time to buy a new device.

Thread cleaned up a little. Let's keep this discussion focused, please.

From what I can gather on the web, this is a 2013 Nexus 7 that has had a custom ROM installed on it, possibly to make it into a hotspot. Deb is the device codename for the 2013 Nexus 7 that is LTE capable, and AOSP is Android Open Source Project. If this were a stock Nexus 7, the Model Number would say Nexus 7 (or something to that effect). The only Basestation I could find on the web was this: https://2014.spaceappschallenge.org/project/androidbasestation/

You'd have to try reflashing the stock ROM: https://www.androidpolice.com/2013/...stock-using-a-full-factory-image-and-root-it/. But as I mentioned before, even if you were successful, the tablet would not be that useful, since it's so out of date.

The thread inspired me to fire up my own Nexus 7, also the 2013 version. For its day, it was a first class tablet, with - important in a tablet - a sharp display and good colours. My own remains smooth and fast, and runs the apps that I happen to use. I would say it's definitely worth restoring it if you can.

Thank you both for the advice and I will try those suggestions. I found out also that my device is somehow google locked so if anyone can help me bypass that to where I can understand how to do it please let me know . I'm not real tech savvy so not sure I can do these things but I sure am going to try.

[We don't discuss bypassing security here , going close this thread out as its reached its limit]

My guess is that you got this tablet used (from someone who had rooted it and installed a custom ROM so that they could use this Basestation app). You can't factory reset an Android device unless you know the Google account and password of the previous owner (assuming they never did a proper factory reset before giving up the device). This is Factory Reset Protection, and is a security feature. The only legitimate way to get around it is to contact the previous owner and ask them to help you with their account information.
