ok so i know what rooting ur phone does. it gives access to things that are normally locked, like administrative privileges. However after doing some reading, it seems to me that this isn't something u want to do unless u know what ur doing. so how can i learn? other threads and websites are vague on this topic. they say what rooting is but how do i learn how to put it to use once i do it? can u guys give me a link to a website that will tell me more? or at least give me some advice on what not to do when playing with it by myself?

i want to do this but i don't want to mess up my phone! please help!

We never want to mess up our phone

The really big question is, what type of device do you want to root? Rooting methods differ between phones, as well with complexity, although not extremely complex.

Most of the popular root methods, AlphaRev, UnRevoked, Super1click and several other methods, typically offer instructions on how to use. Note that they all have specific devices they support, so you have to check if yours is supported.

The most important thing, is to read and understand the instructions. Several times. And then follow those instructions to the letter. And if you're not sure of something, please, ask us before you send yourself to bootloop hell.....

Note, that although they give harsh warnings, True "bricks" are extremely rare.

What not to do? Don't follow instructions! Oh, and don't make any recovery Backups, or backing up your contacts, etc. Then we'll wait for the pleas of help.......

So....what do you wish to root? This will help us guide you.

And,,,, welcome to the dark side

Ah HA HA HA HA HA HA .............

The first place you should start is by reading this:
    http://forums.androidcentral.com/hac...ting-here.html
    and this:
    http://forums.androidcentral.com/hac...l-rom-faq.html

    Then go and read this:
    http://forums.androidcentral.com/opt...ustom-rom.html
and read as many of these as you need to feel comfortable.
    http://forums.androidcentral.com/opt...ng-roms-hacks/

Then when you feel like you know what you are doing... read them again!

But seriously, read the threads and ask questions for what you don't understand. There are lots of very knowledgeable and helpful people here.

    Have fun!
