Hi there!

I have a Nexus S from Telus up here in Canada and work takes me out of cell range for 28days. We have wifi up here but the constant searching for cell service I belive drains my battery like crazy. Wonder if there's a way to turn it off while I know I will have no service... and then reenable it on my trek back to civilization.

Stock nexus s, might look into rooting it before I head back north.

thanks for the read AC'rs

In your settings, turn off data networks in wireless/mobile networks.

Or something similar, as all devices have a different menu system.

Other than that, I believe you have to run a custom rom. But, the above should help preserve battery.

In theory, if you remove your sim card, if you are gsm, you should still be able to run wifi only, in theory mind you. Some devices may not like this, and give you some message

Another method,

One has to wonder what happens when you google....:D

1. Hold down the power button for ~2 seconds
2. Enable Airplane Mode.
3. Enable WiFi and connect to your network

If the WiFi isn't working, check this

1. Open SettingsWireless & network settings>WiFi Settings
2. Press the menu button and click advanced
3. Untick "Use static IP"
