calls disconnecting

My wife is having a problem with calls being disconnected while in the middle of the conversation. she has been given a new phone, the techs at the store had no idea how it was happening, and the second phone still disconnects the call. this does not happen all the time but frequently enough to cause her grief...then me grief!

Does anyone have any ideas on how this might happen? would touching the screen to your face/ear cause the call to disconnect? I have never had this happen to me and we have the same motorola droid phone.
