Droid Bionic vs. Other Phone/Plan??

Bought a Droid Bionic 2.3.4 a week ago & have gotten a fast-track education on tethering. I have 6 days before the 14 day return policy expires. I'm debating about switching phones & plans for easier tethering w/o fees.

Downloaded Easy Tether Pro & learned hard way Verizon is charging $$ so I'm ready to download SQL Editor & Bionic Root & ready to be a superuser. I'm a full-time college student who doesn't have $$ to pay for pricey phone/plan. Phone purpose is to tether to view online courses (videos, forums, etc.)

Not a techie, just a noobie -- your educated suggestions appreciated.

No matter what device or carrier you use, free tethering is not guaranteed. Everyone charges for tethering, so if you get caught trying to circumvent the system, they'll either bill you for it or cancel your service.

It's possible, I'm just saying there's no totally fool-proof way.
