How far away from Wifi router can you get?

I know this is a terribly difficult question to ask, and the only correct answer is "it depends on too many factors to say", but in general, how well do these new phones (Evo, Incredible, etc) handle wifi signals?

Here is why I ask...I have a large yard. I have a wireless router that is able to push the wifi signal outside to just about all parts of my yard, detectible on my laptop (using an Intel Pro wireless card... if that matters). Will these newer phones have the ability to detect wifi signals from about the same range as my laptop?

Depends.

N networking has a slightly higher range than B/G

Also the antenna in your laptop is about 10 times larger than in your phone.

But the only way to know is to walk out there and test it with the phones, because there is no clear cut answer

Thanks....But it's safe to say that the phone's range will be less than a laptop?
