google chat history keeps disappearing from my android

I have a Samsung nexus 1 and every time I go into Google chat (I have never logged out) there is less and less history......right now this is the only way I can go online. Wondering why this is happening! Is my chat history saved in my Gmail? (Haven't been able to check yet) any help would be much appreciated!

I believe so... if you do a search within the Gmail app... it will bring up emails as well as chat conversations.

Thanks for the warm welcome to AC! I tried to search chat history on the Google talk app on my phone but it brought up zero conversations.....
I checked my Gmail at work and it hasn't saved anything either. Is it possible that the person I was chatting with has deleted the chat on their end so it wouldn't be recorded? Doesn't make sense why the conversation is gone....only their most recent status update remains.....

No.. it wouldn't matter if the other person deleted their end of the convo ...you should be able to search for them from within the GMail app or from GMail while in full browser mode/computer.
