Consensus that you can use before (or during) the initial charge?

So, is the general rule of thumb that it is OK to use the phone during or before the initial charge? The quick start guide doesn't address this specifically. Just says that once you install the battery and sim card you can "charge the battery and use your device."

Why are you asking for general consensus (i.e. popularity since there's no way for you to vet all responses)? Do some research on lithium ion batteries. Whether it's Android, iOS, BB, etc doesn't matter. Li ion is li ion.
