News not updating on its own

My HTC News widget won't update on its own, despite being set to update every 30 minutes. Also, the phone doesn't seem to look for updates until I go to the Downloads page on Market. So, there's something weird with the auto-update on my phone.

Any suggestions? Background data and auto-update is turned on and FriendStream seems to update okay.

Pardon the bump, but:

I've found that News under Account and Sync won't work. If I do New Account > News, nothing happens when I press the News button. It lights up, but that's about it. The widget is still not updating automatically, despite being set to a thirty minutes' interval.

No ideas? It's still not working, it just won't update. Have a news reader that only updates manually is not very useful.
