There are several options available for media conversion. A few of the are listed in the following posts.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Android will not play DRM protected music.
  • The AC forums does not condone DRM removal software, nor are threads/posts that advise other members on how to accomplish allowed - per the forum rules.
  • While mostly consistent, there are some variances in which formats each device will support. Reference the devices user guide for more information.
  • There are 3rd party media apps in the Market that may be capable of playing additional media types. Search the market for the media type extension. For example, if you're wanting to play an AVI file - search for AVI.
  • Album Art: Some media syncing applications do a better job than others when it comes to synching album art. iSyncr does a fantastic job of synching album art. There is another application in the market called "art grabber", which will download missing album art. A Media Player called MixZing will also download album art.
  • The same is true for playlists and rated music. If it ain't working - search for a 3rd party app.
  • There are differing opinions on the best media apps - whether it's syncing, playback or user interface. Check out the apps forum for advice and feedback on which apps to use.
  • Common complaints with video playback include audio/video out of sync and choppiness. This problem is usually resolved by an application such as Act 1 Video Player.
  • There are tons of streaming media apps out there. Again, search the market & check out the apps forums.

More to come....

Video Conversion

Check out Jerry Hildenbrand's informative how to article on video conversion using doubleTwist. He provides a complete walkthrough - with step by step instructions.

My personal favorite (but it's going to cost you $9.99) is DVD Catalyst. I'm no genius when it comes to figuring out all the appropriate settings for each of the different devices. DVD Catalyst makes it as easy as possible: Select your device from a pull-down, point it to the movie you want to convert, then walk-away and let it do its thing.

Handbrake is another popular application for video conversion. Handbrake requires a little more effort figuring out which settings you need to use, but you can usually find the correct settings by searching the device forums.
