No idea what device you have. Personally, I have an Otterbox Defender case, with the plastic screen cover removed, and bare gorilla glass on my SGS3. I work in a very dusty environment (new underground construction work sites), and I usually use my shirt to clean off the glass. I have a few minor scratches on the screen. Works for me.

I have the SGS4 with a case from Amazon. I was just worried about scratches etc. Someone told me that something about the S4 made screen protectors unnecessary?

I think it really depends on your comfort level. I never used a screen protector on my old HTC Evo 4G, so didn't use one on my GS3 either....but after a bit I started getting scratches on it, so I put on an Invisible Shield from Zagg. I don't even notice it's on there, honestly. Plus they have a lifetime guarantee...I've used them on my devices for years. Just didn't think I needed on on the GS3 but apparently I do. An ounce of prevention....
