How to flash Droid 2 Keyboard to Droid 1???

I have read all of the posts I can find and still am a little unsure of how to flash the keyboard using recovery. I am rooted and have rommanager so what exactly am I supposed to do? If I download the apk file to my computer and transfer it to my phone via usb and try to install it as a normal app it constantly forcecloses on me. How do I flash it on my phone? Also, does flashing erase my data/apps from my phone or will it just install the keyboard as another input method in addition to the stock keyboard already on the phone? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
