When I plugged in to charge my Galaxy S2 today, "MTP initialisation" appeared in the notifications bar, then "MTP connected". I have never seen that before & I usually look as I plug in the charger to see the % of charge I've got left. Also it wasnt connected physically to any other devise, but its possible that it had its WiFi hotspot turned on for me to use my tablet game.

I checked around here using a search "MTP", plus followed quite a few links, so I understand a bit of what MTP & PTP is about. But I wasn't or hadn't been doing anything to do with media or photos. Is it possible someone hacked into my phone?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Helen

Hi. You'll typically see MTP when you connect your phone to your computer via USB. MTP is the protocol used for file transfers. It may have taken a little longer to switch to that mode.

Thanks. That's why it puzzles me, cos I haven't connected it to any devise for months, unless that includes WiFi or syncing data across devices using Evernote. Does that count?

Iv got evernote on all 3 devices, but I assumed evernote did the syncing itself over the internet from their own storage? (I could find out if u think that would help). But even when its syncing iv never seen that initialising & conected thing before.

I had kies air on my phone wen i got it. I had a feeling id never touched it, so i just checked & opened it. The first page explains what it does, then says to press start & follow the steps.
So i dont think iv used it, would be too scared not knowing what im playing with.

Hmmm...I'm honestly not sure about Evernote syncing. Are set up for any wireless syncing....Kies?

I don't have regular internet, so when I want internet access on my PC or tablet I use my phone as a hot spot.
Does non-kies, wireless syncing use MTP. Coz many programs would do that wouldn't they? Eg Google mail, ac forums, Evernote, anything I've got on more than one device?

Ta. What's TBH? :)
I think I'll do a bit of research on it all. If saved a few links from here that talk about file transfer, cloud, MTP, PTP etc. They are really understandable, so should be interesting. Apparently we're guna have to get used to it all anyway.
