Galaxy S4 GT-i9500 - Think I just got screwed

Hey guys,
I just got my hands on a new Galaxy S4, and the thing runs not so great. I did a factory reset, and that didn't help much. I figured, hey, there's a fresh update for this thing, the 4.3 official is out. Let me go ahead and do that. Nope, I can't get it into download mode. It just goes straight to a Korean language menu every time. Did I just get screwed? Is this a crap phone? I'm normally very careful when I deal online, but I'm afraid I finally got snowed. I'm not sure this is the right forum, but any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Also, it's not recognizable by Samsung Kies, or SmartSwitch. Frack
