I'm running Android 4.1.2 on my Pantech Discover phone. Please tell me how I can turn off notification sounds for text messages and email. The way the phone's working right now, I receive a sound notification of new text messages even when the phone is in Silent mode or Vibrate mode.
    Your help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steve

It can be a little different depending on what phone youre using but generally if you go into Settings --> Sounds, there's a Notifications-related audio slider where you can either turn the volume down or off.

You can also go into each app's specific Settings menu and turn off notifications for that app only. For example, open Messaging, press Menu/Settings, then uncheck Notifications (or change the Notification tone). You should be able to do the same for the Email app (I don't use the stock Email app, but I know that you can do it with the Gmail app under its app-specific Settings/[your Google account]/Notifications.
