Question about sending SMS text with Hangouts

Using Hangouts 2.0.17 on my Moto X, how do I send a text message to a number with less than 10 digits? When I try to text the word STOP to 22300, I get the following message:

Republic Wireless
Only ten-digit numbers are supported

So I presume this is a limitation of Republic Wireless?

It may be a shortcode limitation of Hangouts.

yeah i would try a different sms app and see if it works. If it does then hangouts just doesn't do short codes yet. if it doesn't, it looks to be a problem with republic.

Try using another app (Handcent, Go SMS, Chomps, etc.) and see if the problem continues. If it does, then it's definitely an issue with the carrier not supporting short code, which could be due to a number of reasons. If this is the case, contact Republic Wireless and see what the issue is and if it can be fixed.
