My Galaxy S2 (Android 4.1.2, phone not rooted) has started turning itself off, even when plugged in and fully charged. To restart the phone I first have to remove and reinsert the battery.

This has happened to me with several batteries, one aftermarket and one new supposedly OEM (with hologram "ORIGINAL" sticker and s/n).

Is this a known issue? Virus?

    All help much appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! Check the battery contacts in the phone, and make sure they're clean. Also worth a system cache partition wipe, in case there's some bad leftover system data that's messing things up. Try taking the battery out and spin it on a flat surface. If it spins freely, the battery is bad and needs to be replaced.
