Welcome to Android Central! Have you tried pulling the battery and waiting about 10 seconds before putting it back in and restarting? While you have the battery out, lay it flat on a table and spin it. If it spins freely, the battery is probably going bad (it's bulging in the middle), and you might want to see if a new battery fixes the problem.
