Why can't I transfer files from Android to PC?

Can't transfer files from Android to PC

A couple of times it has worked, but nearly always when I connect my android (Samsung Galaxy S5) to my PC (Windows XP) the PC just does not recognize the Android. I have told the Android to use both camera and the other mode. The PC puts up a list of devices to pick from but unfortunately the list is blank.

I have tried Samsung Kies V3 and it is useless. It never finds the device and all the little windows that open up are blank and the buttons are blank as is the menu.

Is there some simple program that I can instal on my PC that will do simple file transfers.

At present the only way I can transfer files is by removing microSD card from Android and plugging in to PC but I don't like doing this all the time.

Unfortunately I don't have wireless on my PC.

Windows xp tend to have problems with the newest android devices. Try installing kies or search for the s5 windows xp driver.
