Google Maps saving place?

I just bought the LG L90 phone from tmobile and I am having trouble saving places on google maps. I am new to android phones but I am pretty good with
technology. I am able to save places on my laptop with the info window and turning star on . It shows on my phone after that and that is fine but I would like to be able to do the same on my phone. I don't see an info window or a save button on the phone screen. I apologize if this is a dumb question but I gave it a good try looking for answer online with no look. Thanks

Long press on the map at the place you want to save. The red marker will pop up. Click on that and you will see a star with "Save" under it. That will save your place.

Install MyDirections-Google Map ext. and you'll wonder why Google didn't include something like that in Maps from the beginning. It's like a contact list for locations. (But you need to know the location - it won't go the other way, from Maps to MyDirections.)
