Syncing Email

in the past, with all of my phones, non Nexus at least, I could have Sync turned off to save some battery. Regular mail, any 3rd party mail app (K9), etc.. GMail and all Google apps would not. Perfect

But on the Nexus 6, it seems my mail (Using the K9 app) is not syncing until I turn the syncing on.

Is this just a feature, flaw, caveat...of pure Google, Lollipop or something else? Or is there another setting I need to now be aware of

Also, is there a way to make Gmail NOT group messages according to each day?
Thanks

Sounds like everything is performing as it should. Disabling sync will cut all mail syncing to it. Although it seemed to have worked different in other devices, is this how you want it to work, as it's performing in the Nexus 6?

Thanks SRK

Weird as it turns out, mail in K9 won't sync automatically when sync is off. Older phones it did.

I triple checked settings. When I hit the refresh button in the app it works fine. Weird

In switches to Yahoo mail app which people said is better anyway as far as being optimized to get the mail, and that works fine with sync off

I like sync off and turn on once every day or 2

Thanks again for helping
