Will apps transferred via SD card be functional on a new phone?

quick question about SD card storage?

I have a very naive question about SD card storage. When you download an application to your SD card, then insert the card into a different phone will the downloaded application be then functional on the new phone? i'm asking because when I tried this my applications don't show up on the new phone but all the data i have saved from the applications still shows up when i check the SD card storage on my new phone. I'm kinda confused, lol.

Welcome to the forums. You can download an .apk file to install on your device, but it will go to the internal storage. You can store some data from the app on your phone, but you can't run an app completely from it.

Applications are installed on the internal memory of device, application data may be stored in the ext sd card that's why you can see the folders with the application's name.
