I have been using a small speaker at my office to listen to music, and although I have my phone on silent while at work when a phone call comes in it rings through the speaker loud enough to wake the dead.
#1 is there a way to make the ringer remain silent and not come through the bluetooth?
#2 if not, is there a way to make the ringer volume lower?

    TIA

edited to add: I have a S3..sorry I guess that was vital info

What phone are you using? I'm using a Note 4 (and remember the same from the Note 3) and if I set my phone to Vibrate or Silent, no notification sounds will play through my speaker. I think audio stops, but no ringing. However, if I play that through my earphones, whenever a call comes in, there IS a ringing in the earphones, but that's not my ringtone, so it's gotta be built into the headphones. Maybe it's your speaker that's doing the ringing, not the phone itself.

    its an S3.
I always have my phone on vibrate when it rings I wonder if it will make a difference if I put it on silent?

On my headphones, it doesn't. Ring, Vibrate, or Silent, the headphones will produce a custom ring each time, but not my BT Speaker. So again, I think this is coming from your speaker, but you could try the silent mode, can't hurt.

Connect the bluetooth device to phone.. go to bluetooth paired device section and u will see the settings for the paired device..
There is two settings, phone audio and media audio
Uncheck phone audio to stop rings via bluetooth device

Another solution, which you mentioned, is to make the ringtone itself softer. Use Ringtone Maker to change it.
