    1. How to turn off whatsapp?
    2. If whatsapp cannot be turned off, is there a way to make it as if it is already turned off? Maybe like make myself invisible?
    3. Is turning off data and wifi equals to turning off whatsapp?
    4. When I turn off wifi/data for my Samsung S4, the wifi/data for the whole phone is turned off. Is there a way to only turn off data/wifi for whatsapp? (and still have wifi/data for other applications)

    Thanks.

Goto App manager > whatsapp > force stop.
    hope this will work.

I'm not clear on what you're trying to accomplish, can you explain a little better?

It almost sounds like you don't want to use the app, if that's the case why don't you just uninstall it?

I do want to use the app, but not all the time. It seems like whatsapp is forever online.

I have installed whatsapp. I am new to whatsapp, so I thought it should work something like msn messager (can logout, invisible...). It seems like whatsapp is always working in the background (correct me if I am wrong). There are times that I am busy, and I wish to turn it off. Sometimes I only want to surf net on my phone, and I do not want to be bothered by whatsapp, and do not wish to be disturbed by new whatsapp messages.

These are the questions that I have for whatsapp as stated in my first post:
    1. How to turn off whatsapp?

WhatsApp does not have a logout mechanism. The application is designed to always be connected so that you receive your messages quickly, even when you are not actively using your phone. Version 2.11.44 of the WhatsApp Android application comes with a new option under the privacy section of the settings menu. It allows you to turn off read receipts which means people who message you won’t be able to see whether you’ve read it or not. However to keep things fair WhatsApp doesn’t allow you to take advantage of this feature while you’ve got it turned off for yourself. So you won’t be able to view blue double-check marks when you send a message as well.

"people who message you won’t be able to see whether you’ve read it or not" > If I have turned on this feature. does the people who message me know that I turned on this privacy function? Do they see something that is not same from other normal whatsapp users? Do they see only one tick appearing beside my message?

May be you can use the following trick to avoid continuous notifications from group chats or other ping

    you can go to
Settings<< Apps<< Whatsapp << uncheck the "Show Notifications".

Using this, Only when you invoke the application, you can see the messages, unlike getting continuous ping and be bothered.

    thanks!
