Why are my apps showing more storage used then it should?

Strange memory issue

I have about 700MB worth of apps stored on my phone, but it seems to think there is 1.4GB stored there. It says 700MB on the overview screen, but when i open the list of apps, it claims 1.4GB. It wont let me update anything or download new voicemails. I am very confused. Also i have a 4GB memory card that has been barley used, however I dont seem to have an option to move any of the apps over to it. Please help.

Welcome to Android Central! The SD card doesn't really help the situation, since not all devices allow you to move apps, and for those that do, only a portion of an app can be moved.
