How to disable touch highlight/selection

Is there a way to disable the gray that highlights what you are selecting. Also when you scroll to the end/beginning of a page you get that bar (color changes with app) that follows your finger

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? You could try one of the Developer Options--specifically the animation ones. If you don't have Developer Options activated, go to Settings>About Phone, and tap Build Number 7 times.

Otherwise, try an alternative launcher like Nova or Apex.
