I can send texts, make phone calls, receive calls - but not getting texts sent to me unless I make a call and the phone is connected, then I get a flood all at once with the current time and date stamp. I can receive texts if the phone is on wifi too. I am getting email over the network just fine.

I've turned on/off, hard reset/factory reset, pulled the battery and sim, played with all the settings (auto rcv, etc). I'm on Metro pcs and their advise was "buy a new phone"...
It's a crappy Kyocera Xtrm that I've had for just over a year.

Welcome to Android Central! You could try asking for a new SIM card. But if that doesn't work, then it's probably the phone's hardware, in which case it's probably best to get a new phone (since trying to get this fixed will likely not be worth it, as it is no longer under warranty).

Thanks. I seem to have gotten it to randomly work, but I'm sure it will happen again.... A new phone isn't an issue, there just isn't anything good being offered thru metro - unless I want to spend $700!
